Javier Pi (Juan Lacaze, Uruguay, 1964) makes material paintings on canvas, in which he incorporates elements from the world of construction (cement, gesso, glue), fabrics, ceramics, waxes, and also more classic materials, such as acrylics and oils. .
He began in the visual arts as a result of a break with the word, after having dabbled in the areas of letters and linguistics.
His work dialogues with the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy, with the Italian arte povera movement, and with European material and informalist painting.
